About LeRoy
Hill
Hi, my name is LeRoy Hill. I was born on the beautiful
Island of Dominica,
but spent most of my years in Anguilla.
I attended the Albena-Lake Hodge Comprehensive
School. Upon obtaining a high school education I applied and was
accepted at Caribbean Union Collge
where I completed a BS in Social
Studies (1996). My interest in education dates back to my
freshman year in college. I enrolled in a course (Philosophy of
Work) in which I had to go through ‘The Self Directed Search’-The
results pointed to Law and Education. As I continued my journey
in academia it seemed only logical that I should pursue a career
in education. In 2001, I completed a Certificate in Teaching from
University of the West Indies. One of the topics that I was happy
to present in was entitled ‘The Electronic Media: Its Influence
on Education’. I had the opportunity to include a hyperlink
multimedia CDROM as a complement to that research paper. The CDROM
contained a number of video interview clips on my research topic
as well as a browsable version of the research paper.
In 1996 I helped create the Anguilla
Computer Club. I held the position of president until its
closure in 2001. Our goal of creating computer awareness was acheived.
I am a strong advocate of student-centered education
and believe that teaching students the theories are important;
but what is even more important is teaching students to be envisioned
thinkers, who can analyze, strategize and find solutions to problems
that bombard us daily in the Caribbean. Hitherto, Students will
be less reflectors of other mens' thoughts--and be creative and
innovative in a society where ideas and innovations are belittled.
Over the past few years I have developed a special
interest in the field of instructional technology. My ultimate
goal is to become a specialist in Instructional Technology. I
believe that education and technology go hand in hand. Therefore
I find it is a necessary attribute that any district can utilize.
I am committed to using my new found skills in the further realization
of my goals in instructional technology. These new skills can
be a great asset to my local education authority, particular since
our society is fast becoming a ‘digital society’.
After I earn my master's degree, I intend to start work on my
Ph.D. in Instructional Technology
Part of my goal is to establish a medium for teachers,
parents and students to communicate with each other with ease.
In light of this, I have established an online community for students
at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School – (homework
hotline, class notes and links to places that can be of benefit
to them. Presently, I am working on developing a multimedia CDROM
for students of Social Studies. I plan to market this product
throughout the Caribbean region. This Project is being done with
Macromedia Director, MS Flash and Adobe Acrobat.
My
sincere thanks and greetings go to all my friends at CUC-"dear
old CUC, my heart is loyal beating"
